I see the picture of the spring plate and the shock mounts but with no shocks on them. where do your shocks mount?

The shock is behind this stud you see is for the sway bar ends.

:)Look at an 1980 or newer CJ5 with a sway bar, the brackets and the narrow track Bar will fit on your frame & axle.
All of the Jeep frames from the 60's through the mid eightys had 28" frame widths up front ...........even the wide track axles.
Narrow track: 28" frame / 52" WTW axle 78-81
Wide track: 28" frame / 56" WTW axle 82-86

You can buy a used 13/16" or 7/8" bar and brackets on e-bay shipped for under $75 bucks.
:D:D:D:D

Here are couple pictures of the stock mounts. Not sure why you don't have the mounting holes.

I got one off of Ebay coming. What I need to know is from my pics how am I going to mount it.No predrilled factory holes and a piece welded on the right side of the frame. Also when I get it mounted what arms will I need to get to my spring plate with the lift I have?

Go straight up from the lower link mount on the spring plate. The stock swaybar centerline frame mount is 8-1/2" forward of the vertical link mount. It may not be on the welds.

As for the links, the length will depend on how much lift you have. Stock links are 8-1/2" between centers.

Thanks I will go measure that if I get home before dark tomorrow

:)ftwflh, Your Jeep was to early....... I do not believe sway bars were even an option then ...hence no holes........The brackets have bolts coming up from the bottom and two that are at a right angle that go into the frame rails sides. On some as yours a spacer plate has to be used so the bracket gets mounted flat. Not very hard to install, just takes some time to get it in the correct position. Find a couple of large C clamps that will hold it in place.....the bar will attache to the front position on your dual stud spring plates and the rear will go to the shock. Make sure you buy some new Prothane Urethane mounts........don't use the stock rubber ones.

The bar at rest should have starting position of about a 5-10 degree uphill rake towards the rear to the position of attachment...........if your not sure of what length link you need get the bar mounted first using a plumbob on a piece of string hanging from the the upper connection. If you have lifted springs the stock connecters will probably not work as they will put the starting position at the wrong angle.

In that case take a look at the JKS adjustable quick disconnects......I have used them and are a quality product.

Keep in mind to get everything in the correct position there should be whatever weight is normally carried in the Jeep in that position......so if its 200 lbs behind the steering wheel either get some sand bags or ask a friend to set inside.

I would also insist that you find an 1980 or later Jeep that has a factory sway bar on it and take some pictures and crawl underneath it to take a look. Makes the first install go a lot easier.

Which of these links would do the best? And why

JKS 9300 Quick Disconnects 1976 1986 Jeep CJ | eBay

Jeep CJ Front Sway Bar Quick Disconnects CJ7 CJ5 New | eBay

Got my sway bar.Got new bushings on the way.
Plan is to get the links.Mount the links to the bar and the spring plate. Then weld the mounting brackets to the frame where they need to be.
Think this will work?

:)I like the JKS #4100 quicker links.....much easier to work with......the attachment pins are on a nice taper and are stainless. You adjust the threaded shaft once. Go on there web page & check them out.
Mount the bar first to your chasis in a sturdy location. Don't allow the link to deligate what position the bar needs to be mounted in. On the JKS web site there are some tips about starting location angles. Once its mounted up the bottom mount on the #4100 is a weld on tab that goes to your axle tube.

I cant justify the $160 for links when I may not keep this on.Poor boys have poor ways you know

:)A fixed link is not only going to complicate the bar mount but also the correct starting angle........Not to say it can't be done.......But I can only suggest the correct way.............. so have at it!

Before I start welding on the mounts I will compare and measure off of my buddys 81 CJ5 .
I will go with the JKS quick release (original style) Got their phone number and will call them before starting. Thanks for the info.
My old Cj is not a hard core offroader or a daily driver.Just a afternoon bottoms cruiser.
I treat my Jeep like my old Harley.Neither are engineering wonders just basic machines made to work on and modify.

Need to find a shoulder bolt to go through the 5/8 hole in link and the 1/2 hole through the bar.
anyone know where to get one?Looks like some sort of shock would use them.

I realize this is an old thread but had a comment/question. On the sway bar frame bracket, (cast steel), I noticed there are 2 round recesses in the bracket along with big 1/2” or larger holes where the bottom 3/8” bolts go. This looks like it’s for bushings. Mine are gone and I’m doing a frame off restomod. Any idea where to buy or what they look like. I can make them if I had something to copy. Any help appreciated. 1st post new member.
