So I bought a Jeep with an after market radio antenna attached in the typical position on the passanger side below the mirror. Naturally the PO punched a hole in the heater box to get it to fit, basically destroying the box. I've replaced the box and have no intention to punch a new hole in it. This isn't a new problem for Jeepers, my last Jeep (1980 CJ5 ) had the very same hole in almost the very same spot. There must be antennas with shorter posts that go on the inside, but I can't seem to find them. Any advice on where I can get one that fits would be appreciated.

I put a plug in the hole and mounted the antenna on the tire carrier. Never really liked it on the side anyway.

Mine is an aftermarket one but it has plenty of room to clear the heater box. It's mounted right above the "P" in Jeep. Two holes, one for the coax cable threads to go thru (w/ thin nut) and one for the 5/16" stud. I bought it well over 25 years ago so don't ask where I got it but it's similar to this one.

Thanks guys.

PaRenegade - The hole in my jeep is sizeable, Probably 3/4"-1" I wonder if the base is big enough to cover the hole?

that thing is 55" long????

55" that's a heck of an antenna
