Any tips on finding the right jeep?

Id like to start discussion on how you found your jeeps or how one should go about finding theirs. Im currently on the hunt for a 3b and it seams like ill never find the one im looking for.

If yall were on the market for another jeep what actions would you take to find it?

I have spent hours on Craigslist, ebay, and google but I feel that Im looking in all the wrong places because I keep coming across the same very few vehicles for sale.

Are there any tips or networking strategies that yall know of?

I know there are people out there you can hire to find what your looking for, but what are they doing more than ebay and craigs?

Since you know what type, that's the start. Usually you start with the type like you are doing...CJ5 , CJ7 , CJ3b , etc. Then figure out how much of a project you want it to be. Cheap means lots of project work and the better condition usually means the more restoration has been done. Also, figure out what you are going to do. You wanna climb boulders, daily driver, go from Ft. Lauderdale to Naples overland through the swamp, etc. That should get you in the right direction. Good looking jeeps those 3b's.

Thanks for your reply. I am just looking to ride arround town, attend small car cruze ins, and ride arround the hunting property. I have been all over those sites and the only 3bs arround me are in awful shape. Im not looking to buy a cheap jeep and do a restoration. All the good shape 3bs i have found are several states away. I know there arround ga and surrounding states but the people that have these old flat fenders dont have any interest in selling. So I dont know what else i can do other that sit back and wate.

Alpha6 is right, you just got to keep looking. I searched for over 2 years to find my CJ7 and had a 400 mile trip to pick it up. My 43 GPW caused me to drive about 2400 miles.

Remember the CJ3b production stopped in 1968 with a total production number of less than 200K units. That’s almost 45 years ago; heck the original ones are 60 years old. Considering how many rigs were probably killed in crashes over the years coupled with the ravages from rust, and not to speak of just general neglect I would have to venture to say the CJ3b is quickly going the way of the dodo bird. I see this as potentially a long search and when you do find a good one be ready to strike. Try looking in the desert southwest area of the country for less rust.

Looking in the southwest area is a good point.. Probably a much better survival rate there. There is this local jeep place that has a 3b. Everything on his property is for sale but his 3b and his old tractors. What a bummer.

Depending on budget, travel expenses, ability to take time-off, etc. I'd exercise more time on "networking" the internet. Visit other websites such as autotrader, autofinder, AAA, etc. I located my Jeep on the side of the road, all it had was a "for sale" sign on the windshield. I pounded the internet and and came up empty. Southern CA, AZ, NM, UT, and central TX would be some hotspot areas to search. The junkyards near Bastrop, TX might have a 3B. Google those areas.
