In a frame off rebuild for a long time...
I have a little project going and one of the things we are trying to do is improve the steering system a little.
Has anyone modified the Ross steering system to use another box, or converted to power, or done anything else with it? the sky is pretty much the limit on this, no worries about keeping anything original or cutting/welding the frame, ect. The only limit is keeping the front axle intact.

So what year CJ are you talking about?

Must be a pre 72.

My buddy switched his71 over to a Saginaw and Dana 30 . Not hard, just some welding for the box mount.

Thats a good link, I wonder why it didnt come up on my searches?? lol My search fung shwei must be off this week,

As near as we can tell its a '67 frame. no title, no VINs to be found.
Looking over the pics and comparing them to my frame, there isn't enough room for the box in the position Herm has them mounted (its a F-134 engine).
I'll get some pics up when I wander over to the shop today.

I converted my 67 and keep the ross box. Works great. Not a saginaw but still works great

The Ross gets no respect. My 3b steered horribly with lot's of wheel play, wandering all over the road complete with death wobble and if towed wheels would stick in the turn position it just came out of which is a bit hard on your tires.
After doing my rebuild on this Jeep the steering is now tight and effortless and a huge improvement with no reason to modify. The culprets were steering knuckle king pin bearings were toast causing the closed knuckle hemispheres to bind and rub together, the ball ends ranged from frozen to sloppy, and the gear box itself a little worn.
Were am I going with this? Don't throw in the towel thinking it is a hopeless system. Look at the whole system and correct what's needed.
