Thats no way to spend a vacation!

The ball joint press worked on three out of four on my 8. BFH worked on the last one :pissed:

use the ball joint press and get things tight, then whack the C hub around the ball joint. That should loosen things up some and tighten the press again. repeat.

well got the joints change. steering was better but not perfect. on my test drive i heard another popping sound. so when i came home i had my daughter hop in and turn the wheel. the pitman shaft in the steering box is popping up and down. guess thats what i get for beating on a 32 year old jeep :D so i now know what the next project is. thinking of making it power steering.

Dang that's a bummer about the box. You should maybe concider just having your box rebuilt or ? Going to power is more work and expense than meets the eye, for starters you obviously need the ps box then the intermediate shaft has to be replaced followed by your pitman arm that will not cross over and of course the PS pump, brackets, belt, hoses and then a duel pully on your crank. See were I'm going? Having your box rebuilt or a whole new manual box is way more cost effective. I would send you mine but the output shaft is worn out and sloppy.

i was thinking of staying manual. i only have 31" tires and would maybe go to 32" to 33". at my work with my discount at work its only $141. shouldnt be that bad to turn those.

The main diff betweem manual and power will be the number of turns the steering wheel makes, my manual box has 7 turns lock to lock and the PS box has 4. The effort(drivers) involved is not bad if you can live with the extra wheel turning.
My 2C's

well i pulled the gear box out today and just ordered the manual box from work.
