As you can see from the photo my shocks are pointed in ..... / \ Not sure what the benefit of this would be? Any ideas?

Conventional thought is that anything mounted to center will aid in articulation. Shocks included.

I am with Cold on that one. I would be more worried about the spaghetti of a brake line system you have, can easily get snagged and ripped out. You need to rerun those lines tight to the axle housing.

Technically any inclination from vertical reduces efficiency.
At least that was the mantra I was taught.
Though you see it done on many vehicles. ;)

I'm definitely going to clean those brake lines up! In about month I will be removing the tub and cleaning/painting everything! The cj is really scary to drive down the road at 40mph or 50mph and I'm trying to do everything I can to give it a safer ride. From what I gather the shocks would give me a better ride mounted ( | ) then like( / ) ??

Eh, I wouldn't let it worry me. If the new mount was installed correctly and isn't a mess, you can let it alone. Sounds like you have more pressing issues with the front end.
