Ive purchased a 2.5" pro comp suspension for my 86' CJ7 . I'm replacing the shackles as well but i'm only going to buy replacements that are about 1/2" taller than stock height shackles. I'm trying to save money so i really do not plan on spending over $70 a pair for shackles. Any help or suggestions as to a brand would be great. thanks

Warrior Products makes some good ones. They are 3/8" sides and have a welded center block. Two things you want in a quality shackle. And the finish is pretty good too.

Jim makes some great ones, along with stock hangers and yj conversion hangers if you need them. Designed the hangers for his CJ and ended up making them for others. And he is great to deal with.

I got the universal shakle kit at orielly. I used the holes that closely resembled stock and cut off the excess

There is still many questions regarding drilled 1/2 " bolts and whether or not they offer enough strength.........depends on what you do with your rig.
The extreme have moved on to 9/16" and even 5/8" bolts and spring fixtures using high performance polyurethane bushings that can be run dry or disassembled routinely to lube.......
Any shackle that is not set at the correct tension and maintained there will allow wear and movement to occur prematurely.

I shutter everytime I hear someone say to just get 2 straps, one for each side and drill holes in them. Similar to the Mr.Gasket universal shackle kit for cars from back in the 70's. Off road shackles need to resist so much more force than a street vehicle. The sides need to be at least 3/8" so they don't bend, 1/4" ones will bend. So how do the even thinner stock ones hold up you ask? They are stamped steel and have sides rolled 90 degrees or dimples which stiffen an otherwise flat plane of material.
You also don't want the 2 sides to either rack or become non parallel. This is the reason even the stock ones have a shoulder bolt and are welded to the other side, so they remain square. The bushings are there to absorb flex and movement between the springs and the frame. Shackles are to move in a rotational direction not in a lateral direction. That's why a welded block between the sides are superior to even ones with a sleeve. Hack, I like Jim's products but I have yet to see a shackles as stout as Con-Ferr made them.
But length is also a controlling factor. The longer they are the more stoutly built they need to be.
So please, don't anyone do this:
