Anyone have recommendations for the best SOA kit for a '82 CJ7 ? I've found the rocky-road SOA kit. Is there any others out there? Is the OTT steering system needed? Not sure if someone has bought axle mounts and Ubolts and done the rest of the steering, brakelines, and shocks separatley. I was planning to put some sway-away shocks and buying my own brake lines to save some cash.

IMO there is no good soa kit. If you want to do it right it's custom all the way.

But really I'm a sua guy, it's a lot simpler. Soooo I'm sure someone else will have some other ideas.

I did mine without a "kit". I used a "Blue Torch Fab" Shackle reversal bumper replacement. I also used their steering arms & U-blot plates. I have no experience with "sway-away shocks". Look at the pic in my album.

I've done a couple SOA lifts, but never used a kit. I played it by ear and made what I needed. I just found out about the kits about a month ago, I think they are overpriced at best. Just my 2 cents.

High steering arms really help eliminate "bump steer". In my rig tracks straight & true hands free at highway speed. Second is traction, generally SOA's will have wheel hop issues if it's not addressed.;)

Did you have to extend brake lines? Any u joint problems? I've heard you may need to drop the Transfer Case .

LongHorn - Do you have any close up pics of the SOA on your CJ8 ?

Yes I extended my brake lines with steel braided lines. I lifted mine 12", but did not drop the Transfer Case . I used CV driveshafts front & rear.DSCI0088.jpg

Is the reason you used the CV driveshafts front and rear is because those Driveshafts flex with angle i guess you could say let me find a picture
