I am trying to get my recon permit in Hawaii (total freaking racket). :censored: They have a 3" body lift limit. Unfortunately, they count the 1" bushings as part of the body lift. :censored: So I need to remove 1" of lift from my CJ in order to get my recon.

My question is this: Would it be okay to remove just the bushings? They are looking a little worse for the wear anyways. And I would replace them with new ones as soon as my recon and safety permits and everything were all filed. Would hopefully be less than 2 weeks without the bushings in place.

I don't think it is much of an issue but thought I'd run it by here since I am a newbie...

If your tires and such would still clear while driving, and its not a rough ride there and back, shouldn't be a problem I'd assume... I am no where near an expert though!

If anything confided this a bump back to the top :D

But I might argue with them counting as a lift " add... In the end your way might be easier... Lol

Yeah...I tried arguing. Just a ploy to get me to spend money on the local economy. I have a straight shot on the highway to and from work, so I don't think it will be a problem. Going to try anyways!!

So If I ever show up in Hawaii don't shoot me if I'm wrong :D

Just take her easy to make sure no metal to metal damage occurs

If Im reading this correctly you have a 2 in. body lift stacked on top of your original body mount bushings? Id like to see some pics. If thats the case then the recon permit in your area is doing its job. Youve created a very unstable and unsafe condition. Typically you really shouldnt use more than 1 in. of body lift. I dont care if its a mall crawler or not , Im staying far away from a 3 in body lift especially the way youve described yours.

Im not trying to be mean or arrogant at all , Im just speaking from a safety standpoint. Your Jeep looks nice in your avatar but a highway or off camber accident could prove extremely dangerous , if not fatal. Whoever lifted your Jeep did it the cheapest way possible. Get yourself a 2 1/2 in leaf spring lift and you can sleep alot better.

I purchased the Jeep...originally intended to remove the body lift, however replacing four bearings and a broken locking hub shot my budget for a bit. I could lose one inch of the lift without interfering with the tires, maybe 1.5 inches. But again, don't have spare change rolling around for that just to pass a silly inspection...this is just a temporary fix.
