Are narrow track brake calipers bigger than wide trac brake calipers? I ask cause my 85 has narrow tracs swapped in from a previous owner. When I put my wheels on I felt it bind in the front. The calipers are definately too big to accept the wheels I have now.

When I looked at the wide trac axle I have the caliper seemed smaller. If this is so can I swap in the smaller caliper? Im pretty sure that there are different bolt configurations. Sorry I did this while just glancing at things in the garage while getting ready to camp out. I'll be gone till Monday. Feel free to give me a variety of options.

Thanks
Pete

82 to 85 definitely take different calipers than 81 and older. They won't swap straight up. You might be able to swap everything out, but I'm not sure.

Yeah I have a wide trac sitting here. I'll see what happens when I mount them on it. Hopefully they didnt come from somethiing thatll only be usable with drum brakes.

I'm a little confused about what you're doing? Are you swapping out the narrow track axles that the PO installed with a set of wide track axles you picked up somewhere?

A long long time ago I bought these Outlaw wheels for my Cj. I know they came off another Cj , Im just not sure what year or brake style. The inside of the wheel rub on the brake caliper. The offset of the wheels is perfect other than than that.

I have an 85 CJ7 wich should have wide trac axles. A previous owner mustve swapped in narrow tracs. This was verified in a thread a long time ago. :D I can either swap to the wide tracs (being I have a set) or swap over all the brake components from the wide trac axle to the narrow trac if theyre smaller.

15" Outlaw's?

If so, I'm surprised they don't fit? My old 1980 CJ had the narrow tracs and 15x10 outlaws with no clearance issues.. How close are they to clearing? You might be able to just do a little grinding on the caliper.

I was suprised to believe me. Definately 15 in. wheels. Binds both front wheels enough that I thought the parking brake was on. I'll get a good look at it later this week and take some pics.

Are they 15x8 or 15x10? If they're 8" wide, I'd swap axles for the looks if the gear ratio in the wides is acceptable. Not to mention that the wide tracks can take a bigger tire without rubbing or giving up your steering radius.

They're 10 in. wide. I have some Tj flares on it right now that cover nicely. I know if I go with the wide tracs I have in the garage it'll cause me an issue. Im working on a Yj tub swap now and the Cj will actually be painted decent this time. When I get a chance this weekend I'll swap a wheel onto the wide trac and see what gives. Then I'll make my choices from there I guess. ;)

Curiosity got the best of me and I went down and took a closer look. I had the wheel wieghts mounted on the back side when they balanced them. There is one small wieght lodged between the caliper and the wheel on both sides. I'll throw some pics up another day.

Thanks
Pete
