anybody ever replace the brake lines on a CJ7 when not doing a full frame off restoration. I've searched and found lots of info of how to do it with the tub off and no engine in the engine spot and that seems to easy for me i want to do it with all that stuff in there and the body still on the frame to make it more of a challenge lol.

Anybody have any tips or tricks to doing it this way.

If they run through the frame rails, you have 2 choices. (I believe you have a boxed frame correct?)

1) Try to run the new lines through the frame too.

2) cut and abandon the old lines and secure the new lines to the side of the frame instead.

It's obviously a whole lot easier to run lines with nothing in the way, but only if you are already removing all the tub etc anyways... I would not remove all of that myself to do the brake lines.

I read somewhere NOT to run ALL braided or flex line. I can not remember the details, but it's good to keep the firm hard-line type for most of the jeep. You run the flex / soft line on front wheels obviously...

neat, so it isn't completely necessary to follow the factory routing? I will keep it as close as possible, but the change in length won't mess anything up?

I would try to follow it as close as possible... BUT yes it works off pressure. The fluid capacity can change and not affect pressure (as far as I am aware anyways...)

Like I said, I would keep it as close to stock as possible...

:D:D

Can I ask, why are you replacing ALL of the lines? are they all bent up? broken? whats the deal?

I was replacing the rotors, pads, shoes, drums, and the soft brake lines and everything was quite rusty. The hard lines themselves are rusty but don't seem to be broken or anything.
The connection between the hard and rubber lines broke without much force though. So I just figured that the whole line could use replacing.
