Right now, only one '76 CJ5. 304 with a three speed stick. Everything else is pretty much stock 'cept for a 4" suspension lift. Came to me with a back breakin' 4" suspension lift attached to a reverse shackle setup (Reversed the reverse shackle :dung: and now she rides like a Caddy!) Also posess a few 60s & 70s Mustangs and a couple of late 70's F150s 4X4s.
Hope y'all are having a wonderful Saturday!

I need some help determining what brake parts I need to get for my '76 CJ5 . It has disc brakes on the front. I have one caliper sticking and both rotors need replacing. I ordered parts from my (usually) trust-able NAPA parts dude this past Tuesday. Got the parts home yesterday afternoon. Just as always, I can never get a parts store to get me the correct brake related parts I need. This time; wrong rotors, wrong calipers, wrong pads. Even though I took the guy a rotor and caliper off my CJ so he could use them for comparison.

My axle has the 2 bolt caliper mounting bracket. The rotor is not the thicker version that works with the 6 bolt bracket. The caliper part number I have for the right front is a Bendix #8385L MF4. The left side has a Ford caliper on it and I haven't found a number on it yet, just the blue oval casting with the script Ford name. The number off my rotor is 38745R N2 with no brand name on it.

I have never managed to purchase the correct brake pads anywhere since I got the Jeep in 2000. Believe it or not, I've always managed to use a cut of wheel on my 4" angle grinder to modify the metal backing plate on the pads so they would fit my calipers. That took less time than going back to the parts house and was much easier than my blood pressure rising up at the parts guy.

I've seen a bunch of info on a thread search about the stuff for the 6 bolt style brakes, but not much for my set up. Can anyone provide me with the correct part number information and a supplier for calipers, rotors and brake pads for my ride with the 2 bolt caliper brackets?

Many thanks for any and all info!

I'm by no means a Jeep authority, but I didn't think the 76 CJ5 came with disc brakes. If you say one of the calipers says Ford on it, maybe a PO switched in a Bronco axle, could even be a Scout axle. That's what happened with our CJ7 . Try looking for Bronco or Scout parts.

From what I understand, '76 was the first year disc brakes were offered as an option. Lord only knows what configuration they would've been comprised of. My "research" indicates I may have a later axle than '76.

Since my original post, I've been doing a bunch of measuring and web surfing and have about came to the conclusion that "something" is different with my set up. My CJ is a '76 per the VIN plate (and that's how it's always been registered, even before I purchased it). Dug out all the casting numbers on the axle and now I'm wondering if I have a '79 front axle. It's definitely a Dana 30 and has a "79" cast into the tube to diff web brace on the driver side, top. I think that'll make it a '79 transplant. The later (79 - 81) CJ Dana 30s had the two bolt caliper brackets and the "keyed" caliper mount to the bracket and the thinner rotors (7/8" thick). Pretty much the same set up I have.

I'm fixing to cross reference the early Bronco info to see what Ford caliper I have on the driver side. I never got any info running the Bendix number on the passenger side.

Thanks for the Bronco "heads up"!
