when i had the ball joints apart and taking my axle out. some how my camber got thrown off. how do you adjust it? my tire is leaning out on the top.

Sounds like you had a camber shim on your CJ and put it on wrong. Did you see anything like this behind your spindle (where it mounts to the knuckle)?

Or, did your CJ have any ball joint sleeves?

Both are designed to adjust camber in a front diff of a Jeep (dana).

it has the ones in the red box. my friend said he started to unscrew it and stopped. let me guess, that is what messed it up. how do i move it to get it back to where it should be?

The wedges move the ball-joint off center to adjust your camber. Rotate the shim so the wedge moves the joint into the direction you need to move your wheel. There is really only two directions for the shim to me angled - inboard and out board. Just rotate the shim opposite from where it is now and you should be real close to the correct placement.

As a summary, if your wheel is leaning out at the top, the shim is rotated the wrong way, rotate it so the ball joint is moved inward... :)

thanks cj. can i just take the nut off and turn it or do i have to take it all apart and knock the ball joints lose again.

o we never changed the ball joints. just not knocked them lose. then he said he turned the camber thing cause he didnt know what it was. the spindle never came off the jeep.

Pretty much sums up the phrase - 'If you don't know what it is - leave it alone!' :)

You'll get it back in alignment pretty quick now that you know what the problem is... :)

This will also adjust your caster , you'll notice when your driving it if it draws your steering to the left or right on a crowned road..Puting the hole closer to the inside but toward the firewall will put you closer to both the caster and camber specs if you are doing the drivers side, and toward the inside only for the passanger side because you need less caster on the pass side.you also notice if you don't have any steering return you don't have enough caster at all
