'79 CJ7 Golden Eagle
Hi guys,

Just put my hand on a barn find 1979 CJ7 Golden Eagle and about to start the restoration.

I am looking for a used complete body tub, and what I am able to find on the Canadian market is pretty Limited .

i'd like to know if any of you in the community knows a seller in the US.

I could also go for a fairly priced complete vehicle, either in bad condition or salvaged.

Any help will be greatly appreciated !

thank you !

Wow a barn find. When I was a kid we had 3 barns and plenty of old vehicles around but never a jeep. That would have been like finding the pot gold under the rainbow. WELCOME to the forum. :)

Yes a true barn find, it's been sitting for around 20 years already !

very excited to begin this restoration !

If details matter and you have a floor mounted roll bar you want a 79 CJ7 tub.
If you have a fenderwell mounted rollbar you can use 1976-79
Excluding the rollbar its very easy to tell the difference between the late 70s and 80s tubs.
If details are not a concern any 76-86 CJ7 tub will do as PB mentioned.
CL is an option as well.

I saw a Golden Eagle for sale on CL in AZ not too long ago.

POSI, I knew about the fender mounted rollbar, and the floor mounted - so what is in the 80 to 86 CJ7 ? Is it the floor mounted rollbar?

PB-It's floor mount.

Pretty sure most of the 79s and everything after that is floor mount. They're easy to pick out because they lean back at an angle roughly equal to that of the windshield. Additionally you don't have the line of torx bolts along the top edge of the tub.

84 is 2 bolts to floor and 2 bolts to the up step as 1 unit in front of the fender and then 2 bolts on the top of the fender in the back part on top

The 80s rollbar were the same as a 79 except for the 80s rollbar shoulder seat belt mount.

To answer your question,
What is different, the Jeep stamp on both sides of the tub near the cowl.
I believe they started in 1980, but don't hold me to that, could have been later CJ tubs.

All 76-79 tubs had the indents in the "ee" and the indents were painted body color, the 80s CJ didn't have the indents and were just painted to look like they did. All the yj's have the same "ee" as the 80s CJ.

If you were to buy a Jeep stamped side repair panel you would most likely get the indents on the "ee". If you were installing them on a later CJ you were expected to fill in the indents with plastic opposed to the seller changing their tooling, if details mattered.

It can be hard to tell from pics unless it's a closeup, standing 10ft away can be easily spotted.

Personally I like the detailed indents.
