Trying to research new canister for 1985 CJ7 . A lot harder than it should be, specifically looking for new OEM or suitable substitute. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance
'85 CJ-7, 258/4.2L 6cyl. Bought new in 1985. Full cage, Warn 8274 winch, Ford 9" rear, front/rear Detroit Lockers w/4:88 R&P. T-5 tranny and 4:1 t'case. 33X12.50-15 BFG/AT, MSD ign, on board air---
I purchased a new can off eBay after searching other replacement options from the links above. Closest I found was the DeLorean evap cannister, which was a good fit. But for a better price I found Standard motors # CP1004 IIRC. Installed it yesterday and it works great. Only additional work was to T the ported vac signal, as the new evap can comes with 5 ports while the OEM had 4. I'm in California and need to pass inspection, but I doubt they'll be able to tell the difference.
That will pass a Ca. smog test,Kappy 415, but here in the land of smog and no water, the exact oem version is required. It could fail a visual inspection if the smog man catches it. I would suggest dirtying it up a bit and hope for the best. Delorean also has fuel tank vent check valves that work great in the CJ.
