With all the different lift kits available how do you know which one is right for me. I was thinking adding say two to three inches. Or would a body lift be the best and simplest way to go. Would like to hear views on both thanks.Scott

I just installed the Skyjacker 2.5 spring lift with new shocks, on my CJ7 , rides much better than the old springs as they were flat. Mine also has a 2 inch body lift that PO installed no a real fan of those as you have to lengthen clutch rod, deal radiator shroud, extend shifter, trim floor pans for shifters and e brake cables are really tight now. so mine has 2.5 springs and 2 inch blocks. Good luck and all the BS about Skyjacker riding stiff the new kit has soft ride, kind like a Harley they will ride like a Jeep but not to bad JMO Have fun and do not forget to replace sway bar bushings and bushings in the spring hangers as they do not come with the 465.00 Skyjacker kit.

What year CJ and what are the expectations for use? Want more flex or just clearance?

Lots of different options, with or without a body lift which I think is easier with post 71's that have swing peddles. Personally, I have no problem with a small body lift and that can provide a lot of other use than just tire clearance. More room under the hood and you can raise things like the fuel tank and sometimes even the Transmission /Transfer Case .

It really comes down to what your expectations are and how much money your willing to spend. Generally off road flex and a softer ride will be the more expensive ones. the cheaper ones will be a rougher ride, similar to a tank. ;)
My personal opinion, OME, BDS, Rubicon Express are at the top of the list, Tuff Country, Rough Country, and Superlift are at the bottom end. But I only have experience with RC, Superlift, and OME so it's my own personal deduction.

I have a 86 CJ7 I put a pro comp 2.5 with the mx6 shocks it has a soft ride its been on for 7 months no problems so far we will see good luck

Mine is a Rough Country 4" lift. Was on it when I got the Jeep. It's "broke in" like it ought to be and rides pretty good. Little stiff but not bone jarring. Pretty much how I would like a CJ5 to ride when going down the road, especially since I don't have a sway bar. Rough Country / Tuff Country lifts are going to be your most economical. That being said, don't expect much more than a gain in ride height. If you want super flex, get a higher end lift. If you want a Caddy ride, well....uh.....buy a Caddy!:D

Biggest issues I've noticed with any of the lifts really doesn't pertain specifically with the parts of the lift kits, it's usually what's affected by lifting the vehicle. Make sure you keep your steering geometry correct. Get a drop pitman arm if you need one. Get the correct length shocks. Except for the axle U-bolts, don't crank down on the spring hanger / bushing bolts. Make sure all steering linkage, steering box, ball joints and bushings are good to go. Caster and tow alignment check is good to do.

See? You done went and turned a Saturday afternoon lift install into a life long addiction!!

Good job.....:D

Since you ain't doing nothing.....VOTE!
