Hey guys,
Been reading in another thread, and have to admit that it NEVER occurred to me to run a lower tire pressure on the street! My CJ sees 40 miles of Interstate highway every work day, and I understand that I'll get a better ride if I lower the pressure to ~30 PSI? Just yesterday (6-20-15), Sears installed my Goodyear Wrangler AT's and did an alignment ($84.99 here in SC) to get the ole girl up to spec. 235-75-15's installed, I'll run them a week for a "baseline" ride quality, then air them down to 30 PSI to see the difference.

On a side note, my '86 CJ has the Dana 44 rear axle put in the later CJ models. I want to convert to the YJ springs and hardware, but the Old Man Emu kit is not specified for my Dana 44 axle. What other options do I have to get this done?

Thanks, happy Dad's Day to all!

Looking at my '86 CJ owner's manual it states to run 28 p.s.i. for speeds under 65 m.p.h. with that size tire, and 31 p.s.i. for speeds over 65. For alignment, I just use a tape measure and add a bit of toe in.
For the later CJs with a Dana 44 , the springs will be the same for the rear, but the u-bolts are a 9/16"diameter, per oem specs. To replace them as you should during a spring replacement, you might find a local spring manufacturer for a duplicate set. A YJ conversion will convert the front spring which is 2" wide to a 2 1/2" wide which is the same as the rear plus the front spring will be 1" longer and adapter hardware is supplied. Another option for your spring conversion would be Alcan Spring out of Colorado who is a custom spring builder. I would first suggest just lowering the tire air pressure and running a quality set of off road shocks.

What did Sears set'em to?
FYI-I run 24-25 psi in my 33" BFG A/T.

Boy, do I feel dumb!
Torxhead, I ran to, then ran thru, my own owners manual to find the info you told me was there. In addition to it being listed in the manual, I have a sticker inside the glovebox saying the same thing you did. For curious members, it's page 104 in the '86 manual. Sir, you have opened my eyes!

LG...I've been around for a while, just reading more than posting.

I have wanted a spring conversion kit for a while, so I'll pick up the Old Man Emu kit sometime later this year. Sorting out a '94 4.0l at the present for a future swap.
Thanks guys!

I just put Ome 2.5" lift springs on the front of my CJ7 this weekend... The ride and flex is amazing.

I run 25 or so in my 33 BFG ATs and run 3" black diamond springs. Rides pretty nice. I would not that the 3" springs have settled about 1.5" over 5 or 6 years. Typically a flatter spring will give you a softer ride. A set of suspension seats will also help - not like trucker seats - I run corbeau JP seats. Comfy.

Running 24-26psi on my 33s as well.

Had the 2.5" OME on my old XJ and loved it. Coil front, leaf rear. Just as said, the flex and ride were awesome. Easily took me places others struggled to go.
