CJ3-B build/restore ideas

Starting to think about my next project and looking for thought's on it.
64 CJ3-B in pretty much oiginal condition other than the bent over U bolts and tweeked tie rods, has the 4-134 huricane motor, T-90 Transmission , Spicer 18 ? twin stick T. case. Amazingly capable in L4 with lot's of the skinny pedal!
Anyway it needs a serious goin' through and probably much I have not thought about, I know the motor needs help-smokes like a train on start up and pretty much runs on 3 cylinders most of the time.
Not opposed to repowering it if a good alternative.
Idea's?

cj3 bs are one of the coolest jeeps made. very distinctive with the high hood. Got the hood so Jeep could put in a F head. I really think it is my favorite flat fender.
Hey I have a 70 D27 and 70 flanged Dana 44 you could upgrade that unit with for sale here in Riverside. interested?
Yes that would be a D18 with a T-90 , great set up for that engine, keep them.
rebuild that engine, I had one for years and let me tell you it is a little tractor engine, I wheeled the Rubicon in one once.

Thanks, Ya this CJ really is in good shape for 46 years old! I first bought it about 83 and had fun with it for years then sold it to a buddy who enjoyed it for years then I bought it back from him and have used it as a boat tractor to launch our ski boat. We have sold the lake property and boat but I can't sell this because It's been around too long. To make it worthwhile I need to make it roadworthy at least, I am more of a restore minded guy but an original 3B looks kinda goofy to me so I probably won't go that route. Would like to have a military theme but the high hood sorta spoils that to anyone in the know.

the high hood is what makes the 3b what it is, so please do not destroy that it is to much a piece of Jeep history. I know you can find someone who would love a 3b if you tried and find a 2 or 3A if you do not like that high hood. If I didi not have 2 jeeps going right now I would buy it in a minute, I think I have a freind who may want it.

Really - if you're not fond of the high hood, turn it over to someone who likes the high-hood Jeeps & find another... they're out there, and it'd be a shame to mod a very nice 3B like that one.

Rest assured it's not gona get cut up.
I guess I should narrow down my parameters, restoring to original is high on the list as it would be the most cost effective and politicaly correct but I think it would be kinda fun to make it somewhat militay in theme(if it were a CJ2 I would for sure).
What I do know is it needs steering box and idler overhall, engine rebuild-at least the head, Transmission and T case looked into and at least rebuilt with new gaskets, stock seats recovered, rear inner fender wells patched or replaced and of course paint. Does anyone know if the rear inner fender well is the same CJ2 to cj3 ?

It looks like ford blue but PO had it painted, don't know if they just used that color or matched original.

I was wondering because up until 1965 they had 2 versions of that engine, a 72 hp and a 75 high altitude version, in 65 they went with just the 75 hp version. the way to tell is the 72 hp has a blue head and the 75 has a black colored head.
the difference are the valves and the compression ratio.
Just some useless info I thought I would share

Maybe I'll scratch a little paint and see whats under there. 3 HP diff?
That engine looks so small compared to the 6 but really does do the job. I need to get it to stop burning and/or leaking all it's oil out though.

Either way... I know a guy about an hour north of here who's got several semitrailers fulla' parts for 'em... decent guy. Gruff & quiet till he gets comfortable with you. Helps if you pick up wrenches, helps more if you bring your own.

Wait- your in Vermont and you "Know a guy" an hour north of you....

Ah, but the fact that I'm in Vermont can be taken to mean that I'm a Vermonter, which means that I'd be perfectly happy to bend a wrench as your proxy. Vermonters do that sorta' thing.

Wouldn't hurt for me to visit with Frank again any ol' way, 'specially for Jeep reasons.

Lemme know if you run into a need, & I'll make a run. My '7 could use a good smoke test now that I know it's actually generating some oil pressure when it's warmed up. Frank's road is a good place to shake out a CJ.
