when i was 16 my dad gave me his CJ7 i had a blast but as time past i had to get rid of it. now im ready for another jeep. i have a budget of 6000.00 for a purchase and have been searching for a jeep. i see a lot of CJ5 and CJ7 for all years in my price range. question is what is the most perfered jeep in the cjs. which has more parts availiable and what years. i wanna purchase the right year and the right model (CJ5 - CJ7 ) to get the most use out of and the most toys added to with out drastic mods. let me know your opinions as i will be making a purchase in the next 7 days. oh and what about the 6 vs stock v8?

Sounds like you want a Post-76 CJ5 or CJ7 . Much easier to get parts for, and have the better toys from the factory. Aftermarket support is much, much better also.

You would probably get much better response to your question if you post in the misc CJ forum here...

1978 CJ7 . I like the 6 but nothing wrong with 8. 76 & 77 had some unique design changes that make some parts hard to find, mostly fuel tank and hoses. I recommend the CJ7 because most guys like the extra room but I would not trade my CJ5 for money.

here are my choices i cant decide.

1979 CJ7 ! WITH A AMC 304 4-BARREL MOTOR! 3 SPEED WITH LOW GEARS! RUNS GREAT! COMES WITH: SKIRT, HARDTOP, METAL DOORS, MUD FLAP DOORS AND A 6"

1985 jeep CJ7 ,finished in LINER X,BEDLINER PAINT,black, AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l inline 6,4-speed,4WD,soft top,brand new WARN LOCKING HUBS,cd,33" tires,chrome wheels,nice solid jeep

84 CJ7 Renegade Rebuilt AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l inline-6 and rebuilt 5-speed Transmission with hurst shifter. Done about 5 years ago. It has a hard top and full steel doors, but no soft top. Brand new 36'' BF Goodrich tires. Weber 2bbl carb. Body has some rust and has a very cold start to it.

1979 Jeep CJ7 Golden Eagle Levi (Edition) Edition AMC 304 , One Piece Moser Axles, Spool, 4.10 Gears, 4 in. Lift, Disconnect Sway Bar, Winch, 33in. Super Swampers. with rust in front finder and in rear tub.soft top but needs some repair to fabric

none of the above.

Personally I like the CJ5 's if only because they don't look so much like the older Wranglers. CJ7 's have the room and I like them but I'm partial to the smaller CJ5 . In any event, go for the V8. While there is nothing in the world wrong with the strong inline 6...it just doesn't sound the same.

In the end - try them both and go with what you want...you're the only one that matters. Happy hunting!

Buy a CJ5 . It will make it easier for me to find parts for my CJ7 . Peace.

I like the 7 due to to the added 10" wheelbase. Other than more room it will ride a little better and is a bonus if you lift and get bigger tires. After 81 came the wide track axles which also help when you plan on going up. The biggest thing to look for is rust! check all over, under the carpet, under the roll bar mounts, in the wheel wells, around the spring hangers, etc. Rust will eat up your mod $$ in no time flat.

Good luck!

85 CJ7 wide track good wheel base and more room i love my 85 :chug:
