i have a stock '80 cj7 with a 4 cylinder and a 4 spd tranny.
hey guys im new to the whole working on jeeps thing. i just bought an 80 CJ7 . always wanted one since the one my grandfather got was stolen in 02. I was wondering if i could get away with a small amount of lift and how fast it would be capable of going with the 4 banger. also, what is the difference betwenn the "iron duke and the AMC 4 cylinder? does anyone know which i have?

I have an 81 CJ7 with I4 4speed 4" lift with springs. It is the iron Duke. I am running 33x12.5x15 with 373 r&p. It is ok for crusing around town but it dosn't pull in the hills unless I put it in 4low. I can cruse on the hy at 55-65 no problem unless I hit a big hill or long climb then I shift to third and slow down to about 50-55. It's no monster but I love driving it around.

It is the Iron Duke. The difference between the Iron Duke and the AMC 4 cylinder is that the Iron Duke is a GM sourced motor, GM 151 CI. I believe the AMC is a AMC 150 CI. The radiator hose locations are reverse on the two motors also. The Iron Duke shoudl have an SR4 Transmission with Ford casting marks on top of the casee. I have an '81 CJ5 w/ the Iron Duke. I swapped on a Weber Carb and it made a world of difference.

what Webber did you put on it. I might have to try a new one.
