A friend of mine just found an all metal mint CJ7 tub. Being greedy he thinks he can use it on his CJ8 and then just find the rear portion of a CJ8 and weld the two. I think he's wrong and should give me the CJ7 for my restoration job on my 86 CJ7 . Professional opinions?

Thanks in advance.

You should'a made this a poll! I vote for him selling it to you (assuming he has already bought it) and you use it...Find a good CJ8 body to use on his, since he would have to anyways to get the rear portion for the hack job.

People always think thats the easy way out. To me that looks like more work than its worth. And if he found a CJ8 rear tub in good shape then the whole thing shoule be in good shape so it's a wash anyway.

Gotta agree with this.Theres still bracing that has to be done among getting the fitment correct and it just seems to be a real hassle. Being its CJ8 it wont have any real value of sorts if its hacked together. I doubt you can find a CJ8 tub thats shot in the cab area but good in the bed area. He should sell that CJ7 tub and save his quarters till he finds a decent Scrambler tub.

Haven't looked, but is there an aftermarket CJ8 firberglass tub available? cause I think finding an original CJ8 tub in good shape is going to be hard...and if one is found, I can only guess what the owner would want for it..$$$

I dont see hacking up a good CJ7 tub and fabricating a rear end as a good solutuion. Give it to somebody who will use it for it's intended purpose.

I have to agree with everyone else. Sell you the 7 tub and find an 8 for himself.:chug:

My Scrambler was $3500. That wont get you a CJ8 tub delivered to your door. Nice metal tubs can go for even more for the restore value. And honestly its rare the tub wouldnt be connected to the rest of the jeep if it was that clean.

As far as someone hacking up a good CJ7 tub for a CJ8 ? Yup it happens. Reality is even though there were only a little over 27,000 Scramblers produced Cj tubs ingeneral are becoming very rare.

Yes all of the fiberglass companies make one. I bought a Kentrol body for my CJ8 project from a guy on Craigslist. It is a $3800 tub and I got it for $1500. The tub was never used and is perfect. The deals are out there but hard to find.
