CJ7 CLass IV Hitch

I'm looking to pull my 3500#
boat in and out of the water with my 86 CJ7 . I can't find a
hitch that bolts to the frame with the optional 20 gal. gas
tank. Anyone know of an option other than fabrication? I live a few miles from the launch so I'm not worried about towing but want a frame hitch, not a bumper hitch.

I don't think there is a class 4 hitch for a CJ. They are only 1/2 ton. A class three is typically up to 5k lbs and class four are usually found on 3/4 ton vehicles and upwards of 5-10k cpacity .

I did not research but they should be out there. Check Reese or Curt brands. Hidden is good as well but as the name implies their specialty is hitches that are tucked away or for cars etc. Who knows, they may be the one to have it if it is tough to find with 20 ga tank.

If your boat has electric brakes get a brake controller as well or I would at least do a weight distribution and sway set up do to the short wheel base and vehicle weight. I know you said it's not far but I would do something to be safe.

If nothing else call U haul and pick their brain. I worked as a GM of a hitch center for them when things were slow in my line of work and they can get anything. At least get the part number and then find a good price if you don't like what they have. They have very good relations with the manufacturers and can go direct to them if they can't find a part number.

Thanks for the insight. I found a universal hitch that allows for width adjustments that I'll try. I'll post photos if it fits.
