While in Moab this last week, I decided to take a look at the bolts holding my Superwinch (junk) hubs to the hub/rotor assembly flange as I'd been having trouble keeping them snug. Wouldn't you know, two of them where sheared off leaving the stud in the hub flange. I now only have two bolts (one was sheared off when purchased from PO) holding the hub to the mounting flange. I'd like to replace the '82 five bolt hub/rotor assembly with the 76-81 6 bolt and add Warn Premium hubs. Are bearings, wheel washers etc. cross compatible? What about the spindles? Thanks in advance!

Not sure on the swap.
Just wanted to say my superwinch hubs have been holding up fine, what makes you say they are junk?

Only when compared to the Warn Hub. There was distinct difference in quality that was obvious to me anyway. My Superwinch hubs have served me well to be sure!

Warn Front Hub Conversion Kit - 5 on 5.5" 71-86 Jeep, International CJ, Harvester Scout, 30 spline hub
[WAR.61650] $517.73:eek:

This upgrade kit converts front axle wheel hubs to WARN 5 x 5.5 premium mount internal hubs. Now you can replace any and all front Jeep wheel hubs, including the infamous 5 bolt wheel hubs found on 1981-86 Jeeps.

WARN premium all metal locking hubs use the proven internal spline mount locking system, which eliminates all possibility of loosening hubs. Seals are included to help lock out dirt, moisture and contaminants. These hubs have proven dependable on the most rugged terrain.
Note: The above applications require reusing of stock bearings and seals. Optional disk bearing kit PN 38072 or drum bearing kit PN 38073
71-80 International Harvester Scout, 30 spline hub
72-86 Jeep CJ, 30 spline hub

It seems they're a lot more $'s than I remember, but still available.

Ouch on that $517 price! Another thing, these are not the stock axles, both being Dana 44 's. The front I'm guessing is from an 82 Scout. I'm pretty sure all bearings etc. are cross compatible, but what about the calipers? Is one rotor any thicker than the other?

I picked up a Dana 30 front from a guy for $250 and it has the Warn internal Hub conversion on it. I am planning on swapping it over to my Dana 30 this weekend after I found out that the PO welded the spider gears together on the Dana 30 I bought. It seems to me that the internal hub lockers are a lot stronger and will not cause as many problems.

Update: Went to fastenall for studs to repalce bolts and he presented me with Nord-Lock Bolt securing system. Here's what their website says:

"Nord-Lock bolt securing systems use geometry to safely lock bolted joints in the most critical applications. The key is the difference in angles. Since the cam angle "α" is larger than the thread pitch "β", the pair of washers expand more than the corresponding pitch of the thread. Any attempt from the bolt/nut to rotate loose is blocked by the wedge effect of the cams.

Nord-Lock washers are available in steel, stainless steel and SMO. All washers are ELV and RoHS compliant. In order to facilitate assembly Nord-Lock washers come pre-assembled in pairs (glued)."

Maximum security for bolted joints -Home - Nord-Lock

I'm going to try them out with the setup I currently have. I'll keep you posted!

Hey Parsonmac how did that work out for you??
I'm thinking of "different" too...

So far so good. Just as tight as ever.
