I had a small puncture in a fairly new and otherwise good gas tank. I wanted to weld it but wasn’t crazy about blowing myself up.
I wasn’t going to fill it with water!
My thought was to go buy a bottle of inert gas from the welding supply and flood the tank to displace any oxygen. Expensive but cheaper than a new tank.
So... I asked my neighbor (who is WAY smarter than I am) if he had any suggestions. He said “throw a handful of dry ice in it”!
That was brilliant! We did and since the tank was pretty hot from sitting in the sun, we got massive clouds of CO2 flowing out the holes.
I welded it up without the slightest issue!
It’s nice having smarter people around! If he ever moves away, I’m screwed.
