1983 CJ7. It was my fathers and he passed it down to me. I know it has a 360 V8 from a 73 Jeep Truck. But I am not sure on what exactly the name of everything else is. It was sold by the Camel Cigarette Company that's why it says Camel on it. As far as I know it was they only one like it
I have a 83 CJ7 and the plastic caps that are on the pivot bearing on the clutch keep breaking and I've read we're that might mean that there are motor mounts broken or Transmission mounts are broken. I have checked all that and they are fine. I have fixed the same part 4 times and keeps happening so I need some input on what may be causing it to break? It's the same side and breaks the same so something has to be wrong but help would be appreciated. If u need more detail to understand what or where I'm talking about let me know.

HOW, did you ck the engine mounts?
Have you ck'd the tranny mount?
You have stuff move'n around for sure--
Can you add pictures??

I checked the motor mounts with a huge pri bar and only moved what I should move normally and then I checked it by starting off and the motor only lifted what it should. And checked the Transmission mounts as well. I don't have pics it's just a white plastic piece called the clutch pivot bushing inside the bellcrank shaft that connects it to the pivot joint

The pry-bar test is lacking to say the least.;)
Your try'n to move 1K lbs with the tip of a pry bar--
Trust me--You have a bad mount(s).

Is the steel ball part of the joint in good shape? Not long ago I replaced mine. Is everything tight? There is some side to side adjustment there as well and I'm sure somebody will mention how is your linkage holding up? Almost 30 years ago I replaced all my clutch linkage pivot points with Heim joints, one of the best moves you can do for a great clutch feel.

How are the parts breaking? Is the plastic crumbling? Are the pivot balls popping out of the sockets? ..... Are you properly greasing the bell crank?

i had the same problems the steel ball had wore a groove in the bell crank made for some slop. and i think the little retainer ring is not for the boot it keeps the bushing in place from what i can tell, do you have enough lube? i hand filled the bell crank then put it all together, have you checked ur clutch push rod that can wear where it goes into the clutch pedal.

Id want to see the engine reacts under load , not trying to pry it with arm power. Get under the hood and look at the motor mounts while you pull the throttle by hand. Once you get the root cause fixed swap out your linkage for something like this:

The ball joints could easily be bent or wore and I have plenty of lube I took it out and re did it all by hand I am a pro at it after the fourth time... Do you think I should mostly worry about the clutch parts being the problem? And if you do if u have any links to upgrade parts or just parts in general that would be awesome. Morris 4x4 has a complete clutch linkage replacement kit should that be what I need cause it's most frustrating thing in the world to fix different things thi king you finally fixed the problem and then same thing breaks again so any advice with links to were I could buy new parts would be great and thanks I appreciate it

The OEM, Jeep clutch linkage was poorly thought out to say the least.
I had to rebuild the bellcrank many years ago when I converted over to heim joint linkage.
I also changed to M.O.R.E. engine and tranny mounts.

Not much tire clearance ... yes I can see the rear is in a little rut affecting the suspension.

Since you have a long history with the Jeep you probably know this. Has the problem you are having just started or has it been a long term issue with this Jeep.

What tranny do you have?
IF you post up some pictures. We can tell you what you have.
No CJ ever came stock with a 360. A AMC 304 was the largest OEM engine and they look all the same from AMC 304 to 401.
There are also many sites that will allow you to do a 'VIN' number search.
Your 'VIN' will also tell you what was in the CJ when it left AMC.

Cool additional information in your profile. A 360 from a truck that's good info, but since all the AMC V8's were the same the bell housing AND the clutch linkage will be the same. I think you will find that your linkage is old and tired and needs upgrading some. That is relatively easy work.

A Camel Jeep! Now that IS cool. You might actually have a collectors item. You need to get a real Jeep manual and work your way into an understanding of what you have. That isn't as difficult as you might think. Emissions is an entirely different matter. If you are in a place where emissions are required an engine that is 10 years older than your Jeep could begin a bit of a snarled mess.

Do you have the retainer clip in it? And where are you getting the bushing? I have found the OEM ones work the best.

Yes. But just for a heads up when you see the brand names "Crown and Omix Ada" ask for others opinions first. :)

I used crown, are they good?

I get mine from the dealer.

So mine is doing the same, has popped for the third time since I've had it..I do try and keep a spare kit...the bell crank looks newish(still has sticker on it) is h
There an upgrade for the whole set up or just the links? And the hiem links still use the bell rank and plastic pivots? Also do you think the tcase drop could be an issue? Thanks
