Finally, after some hours of sketchiness, I managed to install the clutch return spring. However, when I push the clutch, the spring cocks to the side and rubs along the end of the clutch bearing. Is this normal or is something wrong?

For more info, I installed it the way I saw in all the books and manuals. Is it worth it to cut the spring and go through the trouble to flip the spring around so it doesn't rub? How are you guys running the springs?

Are you talking about the spring inside the bellhousing, or the one outside the bellhousing?

Pics would be helpful.

:agree:

It's the overcenter spring up under the dash. Big thick one also known maybe as clutch pedal return. I can snap a pic in about 20-30 min

Ah. My clutch does not have that spring under the dash. It uses the springs in the clutch plate assembly to push the fork back thus the pedal. If I am thinking it correctly.

Mine originally didn't have it. I noticed my pedal wasn't fully returning and I didn't want to burn up my new throwout bearing. So after a while I got it installed only to think I should have flipped it.

What kind of clutch bearing is the spring riding on? Mine doesn't have any bearing for the clutch under the dash either.

How far was your pedal from coming back up? What kind of clutch linkage setup do you have? Properly adjusted, the stock clutch setup should have ~1" of freeplay at the pedal, so it's always going to have some more upward movement from resting position. If you still have the stock style linkage, and your pedal isn't going far enough then either it needs to be adjusted, or the return springs may be weak and need replacing.

I may be not providing enough info. Sometimes I'm confusing to listen to. I posted a picture of the parts diagram and up under my dash. It's the overcenter spring. It rubs on I believe it is the clutch pivot bar where the snap ring holds the clutch pedal on. Hopefully that makes sense

See if this helps. Ck pictures in post #4 & #6.

That's the same spring. However how that picture is is opposite of any parts diagram I have seen. So I installed it the same way as the parts diagrams. I think it's best to have it installed the way post #4 is. I was curious how all you guys have them installed and if it's worth fighting that da*n spring again.

When mine broke-I just went to a farm supply store here, and found a spring that was close and cut and bent the ends as needed.
Doesn't rub-hasn't broken(knock on wood:D)
If the spring is rub'n-You want to correct that.

Dang that's not what I wanted to hear. That's messed up the diagrams have it that way. I ordered another one and will go about it again [emoji35]
