MEchanic says inside of column worn out, which is why new return signal apparatus doesn't work properly. He has a 76 chev pu with tilt wheel and thinks it will work. I trust his honesty. Anyone know about whether it will work and/or any associated problems? Oh yeah. It's a 1976 CJ5 .

I think it will. You may want to think about something a bit newer. I put a 90s Cherokee W/ tilt in my 77. You grt to move the wipers and lights to the column and the wiring was pretty much plug and play.

I'm just saying, you wore out a 76 column how worn is the one from the 76 PU??

I put a 70,s chevy column in my jeep for a while. Worked fine and is basicly the same thing as whats in your jeep now. Even used the same kind of key. The housing and signal arm will look differant. Thats the only reason i changed mine again. The tilt would be nice but it may bind the switch linkage when its tilted all the way down if the angle is to great. Saw one that did this no big deal just a little agrivation. Of course the one i saw may have been worn totaly out. As far as the newer column that would be cool and should work as long as it hooks up and bolts on the same. Good luck
