hey guys, just got a deal on a 82 scrambler that needs some loving. i know that the front clip, wind shield, almost all the drivetrain, gas tank, and interiors are all universal or interchangeable between cjs and their later counterparts.

with the scrambler the doors look like they would be the same as CJ7 doors. are they? do they match up with any other models? and what about the tailgate? is it the same as a 7 or is that a scrambler only part that i will have to make? i would assume that the front driveshaft is the same as any other cj. but what about the rear one? scrambler only? or does it match up with some other jeep?

and does anyone know where to get a decent deal on a full top for this? i've seen where some have used a seven top and a bed cover to make one. but i'd really like to get a full one. either soft or hard. just want to be as frugal as possible.

thanks for any info you can help with. if there's any other scrambler only parts that i'm not thinking of let me know so i can keep them in mind. thanks.

A lot of great info specific to the scrambler can be found at www.cj-8.com. As for the doors, I think 82 was the change over year for things. Do you know what type of latch you have on the tub? Later CJs used a paddle type door handle. Same as the YJs even. So you can look for CJ7 or YJ doors. If you have the right pin latch on the door. But even if you have the older door handle type latch, then the older CJ7 doors will work as well. They are interchangeable.

The tailgate is interchangeable too.

As for full tops, you can find the old ones for sale every now and then. New ones can be purchased from BesTop and B&D Co. The Bestop tops have been known to have quality issues. But the B&D tops are pricey.

The roll bar is a Scrambler only item. And they changed over around 82 as well. Early had lap belts and later had three point belts so the top point was in the roll bar.

this is the best shot i have of the door pin that i have. so ihave the CJ7 /yj style?

I don't know how you ever get any work done or maybe you just don't sleep :D

i kinda get stuck on one thing for a little while. get burned out, move on to the next one. wash, rinse, repeat. then i go round and round. eventually i get something done. kind of a ADD kinda thing.

We've made a few tweeks to the ADD label...
#1 SOS This stands for Shiny Object Syndrome. This one is most commonly used and understood in the company of your Jeep buddies
#2 BS Butterfly Syndrome. This one gets used more in the presence of women who dont get the whole Jeep thing
