Soon I'll be installing the twin stick conversion for my Dana 300 . Right now I have Dana 44 axles with 3:27 gears. I can take off and drive down the road ok once I get going but I can't do anything else like haul my 5X8 enclosed trailer. So my question is if I use the 2wd Lo gear going down the highway or cruising in the back country will it tear up my Transfer Case ? I can't afford to lower the gears in my D44s at this point so hoping this will be a work around for now. Thnx for any input.

2 Low is too low for highway speeds.

Jeeps can haul a small trailer pretty well, if left with near stock tires. Enclosed? maybe around town.

Putting 33's on your rig, without installing a taller gearset, is like carrying a trailer already. You are currently lugging the drivetrain near it's limits.

This chart is all over the web. It's accurate and often quoted. Notice where your setup is at.

The thought of towing a 5x8 enclosed trailer with an SOA CJ5 scares me in itself. The biggest thing I ever towed with my CJ5 with 33's and a 3 inch lift was a small wave runner watercraft.

I pulled a 4'x6' Jartran (like Uhaul) covered trailer from s. cali. to pa., with 2:73 gears and 32" tires. Wasn't always fun but it did it.
Using low in 2wd would be no different then 4 low except only 2 wheels will be powered instead of all 4. A twin stick will only give you more selection/control.

I'm hearing/reading alot about the Dana 300 and twin stick TC. upon getting one (Dana 300 ) would it be recommended right off the bat to convert to a twin stick, or just look for one instead? I like the thought of having more control off road with the twin stick.

Look no further. JB Custom Fabrication: Jeep D-300 Stainless twin-stick shifter
It's probably the cheapest priced one out there, yet a quality product. Several folks on another site have gotten them and have zero complaints. I bought one for my rebuild but am not at that point yet. Looks to be built really well and the boot comes with it.

thx, that looks awesome :D:D:D

esp the alu. caps, maybe a little much, but still cool.

I just received my twin stick conversion for my Transfer Case . It was real easy to install, makes my tc easier to shift, and gives a lot more gearing options. Also looks pretty cool. I got mine from JB fabrication and it was great service and fast shipping.
