Damper vs Stabilizer. What's the difference? I have an 80 CJ7 , and I'm not sure which I have or both. This may sound a bit silly to a Jeep owner however, at the local auto parts store, they didn't know the difference and told me they could order a stabilizer with or without damper. I didn't order one from them.

Tomato - Tomoto...

AFAIK - the terms are synonymous. If your talking about the 'shock' like thing on your front steering drag link and diff. It's for rebound (like a shock) - many people don' even run one...

Until I went to 33's I never used one.

Thanks CJ. I'm not sure what the auto parts store was talking about. I just wanted to replace my original stabilizer, and they told me I might need a damper with it???

the words are kinda interchangeable.
A steering stabilizer dampens the movement of the steering usually using a shock, same way a shock dampens the movement of springs.
