Can somebody tell me the part number for the u-joints on the front axle shafts for a Dana 30 ?

I thought I had done my homework and bought Spicer 260 which several sites and shops say is the right one. When I got my axle shaft off yesterday it looks too big as in the bearing caps look like they will still out a good 1/4 in on all sides. Needless to say, I did not install them because I don;t want to take it apart if I am not sure I have the right part to put in. The 260s look like they are right for the driveshaft but according to my logbook I put Moog 280's on there.

I am baffled. Perhaps I have the right ones and am just looking at them wrong.

Not sure about Spicer, but I got Moog 365 Super Strength greaseless U-Joints. Advanced has them (usually in stock). They’re common to Jeeps, Fords, Dodge.

Greaseless will be stronger as the grease channel makes them a little weaker and they see a lot of abuse especially off-road.

I recently bought a pair of 5-260X Spicers for my 78 CJ7 (Dana 30 ), and they fit perfectly. Snap rings go on the inside of the joints, over the caps.

Thanks for the replies. I have plenty of time for additional research now since I had rotator cuff surgery this morning. No wrenching for me for at least the next 6 weeks.

Get well quick, Scout1067. I'm currently in therapy for a possible torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder. If it doesn't get better in a few weeks, I'll be going in for an MRI to see if it needs surgery. Let me know how your recovery goes. I'm more than a little bit interested...

Well, I had the left one done today. The right shoulder was done 6 years ago by the same Dr and it turned out fine. It's arthroscopic surgery so minimal invasive. The sling sucks but the pain is OK. I am more curious to hear what the VA will have to say.
I hope you can avoid surgery completely, that's what I try to do but I always seem to end up needing surgery anyway. This was my 6th surgery since retiring from the Army in 2011 and I am not even 50 yet. Combat Arms makes you old I guess. LOLOL

Hope the left one comes out OK! I'm not looking forward to any kind of surgery, but if that's what it takes, I'll definitely do it. Thank you most sincerely for your service to our Country. I'm turning 65 in a couple of months, but most of my ailments are self-inflicted, from wrenching on old junk...

SELF-INFLICTED! Six weeks after spinal surgery from lifting 7 gallon bucket of wet soil. My wife says she has burned my Mighty Mouse suit and I can never wear it again.

But I can get into the garage in my wheel chair, look over my CJ7 and think about dry trails through the pines here on the Gulf Coast. Planning for the future.

Get well quick, all you other sufferers.
