I'm getting a new to me Dana 44 (unknown origin, came with trac-lok) installed in my CJ, removing an AMC20 . The parking brake cannot be connected as the axle did not come with the lever that connects the wires to the brake parts. Does anyone know where one can be obtained for a Dana 44 rear? The gentleman I bought the axle from is doing the install and he said the brakes are 10x2" and both of us have been unable to find a matching lever.

I would think the lever you are speaking about would be common to any CJ 10x2 brake system, not specific to the Dana 44 . The axle has nothing to do with the brake parts, more the brake system. So all 10x2 brake systems use the same springs, etc. The only thing that might be different is the master cylinder inside the brake housing, but I doubt that it is different either. I would suggest looking at your local junk yard. I would image there were several vehicles made with 10x2 drum brakes.

Good intel, I'm finding some results just looking for parts for 10" drums. Thanks for the assist!

I just got done doing the exact same thing. I used brake parts from a 73 CJ5 . The 73's came with a Dana 44 . The only thing I had a hard time finding was the emergency brake bar. I ended up using the ones from my AMC20 . I had to grind one end of the bar a bit to fit into the brake bar spring, but it worked.

Do the brakes you have include the trapezoid shaped piece at the top of the backing plate (the part the brake pads rest against at the top) or is it more of a round post? All the replacement parts other than pads that I've found are for the round post type and don't have the right sized pieces to make the parking brake stuff work. I tried mixing / matching from my 10" AMC20 drums. Right now I'm thinking if I want a parking brake I'm going to have to replace the backing plates and all the drum hardware.

Yes, that's the kind you can get parts for. The post is round and the top of the brake shoes are crescent shaped. Mine the post has a trapezoid type shape and the top of the shoes are flat. I've found replacement shoes but no other parts. Mine look like this:

The brake in the photo appears to be the same as the 10" brakes on my '71 CJ5 . they used a Transfer Case mounted e-brake. You may not be able to get the parts for that style of brake. All 11" brakes I have seen on jeeps were the Bendix style with the e-brake hardware inside the drum.mike

If changing to a modern style rear brake isn't a option you could look at a 1968-71 Jeepster. They had a Dana 20 Transfer Case and rear brake e-brake.If they used that same 10" brake that would be a source for the parts you need.I would check with the "jeepster guy" or other jeepster parts specialists and see weather they can help. I recently did a brake job on my 1971 CJ5 and don't think much of that style of brake. The only reason I didn't upgrade was to keep it original regardless of the benefit.
