So I just picked up a Dana 44 from a '73 Chevy 3/4 ton truck. I am going to be doing the Hi Steer kit, as well as crossover steering. But I also need to change from the 8 lug to 5 lug so I can run the 5.5 Jeep Rims, and match the rear 9 inch I have. I know that I need the Ford rotors, spindle, and hub, but is there anything else I should have worry about before I go get these? Will the Chevy axle shafts work? I already have to buy calipers, so I am assuming that I will need the Ford calipers as well. Hopefully somone out there has alrady completed this, and will be able to tell me what all I need.

I think your right or maybe you need the small bearing chevy hub, I can't remember for sure . There was a good write up on cjoffroad but the site has been down for awhile now.(of course I never saved it):( I tried looking around but can't seem to find anything for sure, lots of info on waggy 44's though.:D

, or what other little odds and ends that I will need, that you always need, but don't know about till you are covered in axle grease.

LOL you got that right.
Forget what I said above, that's for using 44 disc brakes on a 30.
You might want to check partsmike also.

I have also seen the write up somewhere and of course cant remember where...what about using chevy 1/2 ton rotors calipers and the 1/2 ton caliper mounts should be easy to find? i dont remember their bolt pattern though

The Chevy 1/2 ton is a 6 bolt pattern. It has to be the ford, they have the same bolt pattern as the Jeep 5 on 5.5 I found the rotor and hub assembly, but I am still unlear about the axle shafts and the lock outs.

An 81 F150 disc and hub works. I narrowed a 78 Waggy and used those calipers as well as the axles. Superior shortened the passenger side and re -splined for $60 bucks or so. Warn internal hubs for the Ford as well. No more loose bolts. I changed the spindles, bit can't remember for sure which ones - maybe Chevy spindles.

If your have the flat top knuckles you're good to go. They can still be found in the junk yards.

Good luck
