Wheel bolt pattern is about the only thing you’ll be able to match from a junkyard. Look at Scouts or late CJ’s and maybe some Ford or Dodge classic pickups or suvs. The most readily available 44s can be sourced from late 90s early 2000s Honda Passports or Izuzus. These have six lugs, though.
When planning the build for the Bog Rat, I was able to track down a 6 bolt Dana 44 front axle with disk brakes out of a 1979 Jeep Wagoneer, and I got a 6 bolt Dana 44 rear axle with disk brakes out of a 1995 Isuzu Rodeo.
The rear Dana 44 out of a 1979 Wagoneer will have the differential off-set to the passenger side due to the QuadraTracTransfer Case . 1980 and newer were centered but, it seems like most 80's waggys had the AMC20 . A 44 from a 1975 or later CJ5 will be a good fit but the spring perches will need to be moved out board. Early 70's commando Dana 44 will be a direct bolt in. I think a scout 44 is about 57" wide.
