- 1970 CJ5, V6, 3spd, power steering, headers, electric fans, upgraded larger radiator, '78 grill, disc brakes (front only), swing pedals, hyd clutch, extended front shock mounts, upgraded front driveline w larger u-joints, warn OD, D30 front diff, lockers, 2100 carb, working on a '74 tub replacement, '78 windshield frame with '78+ Acme hardtop
My '69 CJ5 dash panel & wiring was butchered by the PO. I was able to pick up a '78 CJ7 as a parts vehicle.
I have upgraded the steering column to the "78. Temp mounts made but not yet attached. Held in place with vise grips. I am using the '78 wiring to replace the '69 wiring. The wiring is currently still installed in the '78 dash panel.
The two dashes, '69 & '78, have different locations for the the column. The '69 is about 3 inches more towards the center & lower. The '78 replacement panels you can puchase have the hole of the steering column in the wrong place, I can use the '78 I have. One possibility is to purchase a steel replacement '69 dash. What have other people done to replace/repair the dash?
Thanks,
