I am just wondering, if it is possible to determine, which month of the year the CJ7 was build
from the last six digits of the VIN?
Especially for 1979, I would like to know when mine was build.

The 'born' date on mine is below and forward on the driver entry near the "A" pillar.

Nothing here on mine :(
I want to get a reproduction of the VIN sticker, therefore I would need the build date.
The only hint up to now is that I have is that the wheelhouse mounted rollbar ended with VIN 085652.

In the states the wheelhousing mounted rollbar ended mid rear 78, I see you have a 79.

If you happen to have the original radiator the month and year is stamped on the top (at least on 79's). If you have the original engine it will have the build date as well.

Side note: the radiator and engine may have been built on a different day or month from the Jeep's build date but at least it gives you something to go by.

This is my engine tag:
18459497qb.webp
So it should be 1979 March 26.
The Radiator is factory, but no date, only Blackstone and the part number stamped on.

Seemingly there is no Archive where the VIN numbers could be broken down to a month.

It sounds like you don't have the big metal tag that should be mounted somewhere around the brake master cylinder.

My personal vin notes show me,

Latest vin ss# in March 79 is 836105

Earliest vin ss# in April 79 is 837893

Your somewhere between those two ss#

Remember, build code dates for the engines are based on a calendar year while the model year of a jeep will span from one calendar year to the next. In this case the motor code fits the model year.

Thanks for all the replies up to now.

Now I am getting confused:

Where would a ss# 129725 be :confused::confused::confused:

PS: The one I mentioned above (085652) is just the ss# when they switched between the two roll bars.

The SS# I posted were for Jeeps build in the Brampton Ontario plant. Your SS# came from the Toledo Ohio plant. The Toledo plant SS# ran from 000.001 - 699,999

I would suggest searching on Jeep forums and ebay for 79 Jeep CJ with the dash sticker (if they still have them). Their located on the lower left side dash panel. The upper right corner of the sticker has the month and year of build. A lot of folks peel then off when they repaint.

The one below is a 1979 SS# 033019 if you look through the pics you'll see the dash sticker. Send him a message hopefully the it's still legible. If he can give the info it would be a good starting point to narrow down the build month.

Here is another one SS# 129701 just 24 earlier then yours. The sticker is removed, but I would shoot him a message maybe he saved the sticker.

Hope this helps

This is the sticker month and year upper right corner 4 79

Thanks, that are very good points.

This is what mine is missing (maybe due to export model) and what I
would like to reproduce (or let reproduce).

I wrote the guy on ebay a message, with these few digits between
ones gets really close...

Do you have the vin plate on the fire wall? If so PM me all the numbers on the top line and I should be able to ID your month build.

Built October 78, for the 1979 year

Many thanks, this is exactely what I wanted to know.

Putting together all those infos leads to the point that the engine might
be built later than the chassis.

Is there maybe a source out there where those VIN stickers are reproduced?

Check out the bottom of the page in the link below. It doesn't show the exact sticker but I'm guessing he can make one.
