distributor gasket question

I have a 82 CJ7 i6. It runs great. I just need to change the distributor gasket and i dont want to get it out of whack any tips??? thanks

Mark the location of the distributor body against the block with a felt pen so you don't change the ignition timing. Mark the location of the distributor rotor, so when you put it back in it will be in the correct firing order. Learn how to install a distributor without using those identification marks and how to adjust timing if you ever screw it up. The distributor also grounds the ignition control module thru the black wire on the distributor plug, you could cut this from the distributor end and attach it to a suitible ground location like the ground cable from the battery negative to the block.
