Changing from normal 1980 distributor to a dui hei unit and everything i have read told em to change the original drive gear from the distributor to the new distributor. Well, when trying to do that, noticed the original gear’s inside diameter is a little too big. It isn’t a snug fit.

What do y’all suggest?

I have seen where people suggest buying a msd gear.

Any ideas?

There is a history of some of the aftermarket HEI distributors that were made in China had a gear that was harder than the cam gear it meshed with. This would cause the cam gear to wear out. At least that's what I have heard. I would think that a distributor gear with a DUI name on it would be made to the correct hardness. You could call them on this just to make sure.

Thanks for the info. I will call dui today and ask.
