Hey there! I'm new to swapping axles around, and I'd like to know if Dana 44 10/26 spline pinions interchange? I tried searching but didn't find anything.

I picked up a rear Scout 44(3.54 - 26 spline pinion and yoke) to swap into my Jeep, but I'm hoping I can use the ring and pinion off the old Jeep 44(3.73 - 10 spline pinion and yoke). I know more splines is stronger, but I need the 3.73 to match the front and can't afford a new ring/pinion. I have compared the two pinions side by side and they appear to have the identical profile and dimensions. Since I have the yokes for both, can I just swap the ring/pinion and yoke over?

I know that the late 60s early 70s Scout D44s use the same ring and pinion as the 67 CJ5 . Why you have one with 10 splines and the other with 26 is a mystery to me, but I would think if the carriers are the same, the swap would work.

The old 67 jeep 44 rear end has 19 spline tapered axles, its pinion and yoke have 10 splines. 3.73 gears.

The new 78 Scout 44 rear end has 30 spline one-piece axles, its pinion and yoke have 26 splines. 3.54 gears.

Looks like I will be able to swap the ring/pinion between them.

Git er done! :driving:

Since you are new to axle work, I just wanted to remind you that swapping gears is not just a matter of taking the gears from one axle and putting them into another. You need to check and re-shim everything if necessary in order to achieve proper back lash, pinion depth, pinion preload, carrier preload, and gear pattern. If these things are not correct, you will wear out the gears very quickly, possibly even break the gears. You should also use new ring gear bolts, not the old ones.
