Yes I know it's kind of a stupid question, but I grew up in the power steering age and never had a vehicle that didn't have power steering.

My steering box does not have any hoses that runs to it, just the steering shaft and pitman shaft. But it is not hard to turn like I would expect.

I'm looking to replace steering box and bracket and the currently looking at a Big Daddy bracket but it does not fit a manual steering box. So I'm trying to figure out what I have.

If no hoses and no pump then no power steering.

Torx thanks for the laugh.
yep no power steering if you don't have a power steering pump or lines going to the steering box.

Thats kind of what I was thinking but never owning a jeep before I wasn't sure if there was some magical parts inside steering box

The difference is night and day, especially if you're turning the wheel from a stationary position. If your arms ache after parallel parking, then chances are you don't have power steering. :)

Well guys/gals is it worth replacing the manual with a power unit? And how hard is to convert? This is a weekend vehicle only and not a mountain climber either.

power steering by Armstrong;)

If you are O.K. with the steering the way it is, and no plans for bigger tires, then no sense in "Fixing it". You could install bigger tires and start breaking stuff like most everyone else does.

I have 33's on there and the lack of power hasn't been a problem to date so I guess I'll just stay with the manual system, which leads to another question. I do want to put a new gear box and tie rod ends to get the steering a little tighter. What brand is better, Crown or Omix, or neither?

Neither. :( You would be better off getting yours rebuilt.

Because I wouldn't trust either one of those companies with something like my steering. Just my 2 cents.
You can get rebuilt boxes, but I would just prefer to get my own rebuilt, if I know it has a good history.
I'm just kinda silly with things like that. :D

If indeed you are, Dog, so is the rest of the world. The axiom is
"Better the Devil you know, than the Devil you don't know!"

My Grandmother taught that to me. along with almost everything else I know that is worthwhile.

Sounds like a wise lady.
