I am suscriber to their magazine (say what you will, I do enjoy reading it), and this month they started discussing lift laws in various states. Looks like some pretty useful info to have.

I subscribe to the following magazines:
Peterson's 4 Wheel & Off Road
4 Wheel Drive & Sport Utility
JP Magazine
I read that article you mentioned about lift laws. That was very interesting (even though they haven't yet covered my state). They do have other good articles but overall I like Peterson's less than the other 2. Whenever Peterson's uses or puts a product on a jeep they always seem to say it's a great product. They don't want to upset their advertisers but I would rather hear that some products are good and some are bad. I'm not sure they are objective.
I like JP Magazine best. They just deal with Jeeps and they cover a lot of mods.
That's just my opinion but I am curious what everyone else out there thinks of the off-road magazines.

I've subscribed to a few of there mags over the years, I enjoy reading them but they tend to repete themselves every couple years. My jp just ran out, I'm taking a break for awhile.

I find that they all seem to share articles, that one writes it and then they all rehash it in some order within a few months.
My favorite is Sport Utility and 4x4,(4 wheel drive and Sports Utility) I like the adventure wheeling articles they do, although for a few years they were a JP clone.
Anyway SU4x4 seems to have the articles about long trips exploring the outdoors with out concern for doing huge rock gardens every minute on trail. I have a few of their trips on my bucket list, such as the Apple Larsen Trail.
JP is all about Jeeps, but is also the most childish 4x4 mag out there, they even had a porn star as a columnist once just to drive sales. I would rather have articles about Jeeps than have a column where prepubescents try to impress Bree as they show a pic of here strewn over the hood of a Jeep.

See above, I actually do not subscribe, if they have new info or a friends Jeep in it I buy it at the news stand.

What pisses me off about them all is they are really advertiser driven and will not pick a winner for fear of pissing someone else off during a comparo article.

I get peterson's, JP, 4wheeler, hotrod (there is usefull stuff for us in there too), MOTOR and ARBN. I think when the subscriptions run out though I'm going to give it a rest for a decade or so. I've come to 1 conclution after 30 years as an avid reader.....There's realy nothing "new to read" in any of them, and they are more interested in pushing parts for their advertisers then passing along usefull info......But thats just me.:)

JP did a interview on a guys Jeep here in Arizona. Two years later they run the article. The guy had long since sold the Jeep and built another. Most of the mods were out of date and not available anymore.

They bore me quickly. I usualy subscribe for a year and then let it laps for awhile. I do the same for motorcycle magazines. In the motorcycle world there is a magazine I suscribe to that is strictly subscription driven and they tell it like it is on any product or bike. The magazine is not as big but then again they dont need 40 pages for ads every month. I would love to find an off road or Jeep mag that could operate like that but its a risky business.
