Had a CJ-5, 1986 CJ 7,
I have everything off and almost ready to put back on. I have one problem, i can't figure out how to get the coupler off the steering shaft that goes on the Gear Box. Can some one please tell me how to get this coupler off the end of steering shaft. i have it off the gear box.

Thanks

It's part of the shaft and not removable if I follow you right. Do you have a new PS intermediate shaft? you need to replace the intermediate shaft between gear box and collum. If it's the intermediate shaft that you are trying to remove then you just need to remove the bolt and tap it off the spline.

The coupler is at the end of the intermediate shaft. i have ordered a new one and can't get the old one off. i have removed the boot and the wire clip that holds the boot on. when go to slip the coupler off i cant get over the two bearings that make a T at the end of the shaft. is there a clip or pin i need to remove to loosen the bearings so the coupler can slip by. hope i am not confusing anyone.

thanks

I have not seen were anyone has done that, all posts I have read and what I did myself was replace the entire intermediate shaft.
If you were able to buy the coupler alone it would make sense that it is replaceble. Maybe when you see the new one it will make more sense.

That is what i am hoping when i get the new one i will see how it works. i have done changed it out before but it was about 15 yrs ago and don't remember how it is done. thanks for the reply though.
