I drained the radiator through the petcock valve and I am wondering if there is anything else I need to do before I remove the valve cover then the head gasket. Is there a plug on the block I need to remove? If so, where is it? While removing the intake manifold it still had some coolant in the line.

No plugs in the block other than the soft plugs of course. Next time try blowing some air into the block, it shouldn’t take much, hold your hand around the hole.

Make sure to pull the thermostat housing off the head.

See below - here's where I think the block drains are:

Pull the bottom rad hose. You'll still have somee coolant in the block regardless. But it should get it below the head. But have rags ready and plan to do an oil change.

He is right there are drain plugs on the side of the block. If you don't pull them you will end up with coolant on your pistons.
