Planning my refresh and trying to decide on components. Currently AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l T-176 Dana 300 D35 AMC20 . The refresh will likely include either a stroked I-6 or a V8 so the rest need to keep pace. The T-176 is sloppy a heck so it either need to go or be rebuilt. Previous CJ had a NP435 so I am thinking either same, SM420 or T-18 (if I can find one). The Dana 300 is good to go AFAIAC. I dont know much about the 176 but know its considered "medium duty". Is it worthy of a rebuild and will it hold up or should I look for one of the other heavy duty trannys?

your combo will be sweet with which ever Transmission you go with. the 435 is an awesome 4 speed. the T-176 dosent have as low of a first gear so you will have 4 usable gears on the street where the 435 really only has 3 usable gears so it depends on what you want your Jeep for

put some 1 piece axles in the AMC20 rear

JBconversions has some awesome parts for the Dana 300 I bought them all for mine
