I need to lower or drop my tank to replace the lines. I think its my return thats rubbed on the body and wore thru and weeping. Looking at things Im not sure what Im looking at in regard to the tank or the tank skid held on by the 4 front bolts and the rear 4 or 5, then the tank is mounted by itself. Does the skid essentially hold the tank in place? This is on my 83 7 BTW. Any insight would be appreciated.

There is 3-4 bolts on the crossmember infront of the tank and 4 or 6 in the cross member behind it.

Take the gas cap off and undo the screws holding the fill line into the plastic housing.

place a jack under the center of the skid plate then remove the mounting nuts and bolts.

Slowly lower the tank until you can fit your hand where you need to get it to replace the lines. keep an eye on the 2 wires that go to the top of the tank. you may have to remove them to get the tank low enought to reach the lines. Also keep an eye on the evap canister lines on the drivers side. only lower it enought to get to the hoses.

If you have to lower it all the way I would plan on changing the sock firlter in the bottom of the tank while its out if it hasnt been changed in awhile.

X2 dont be surprised if the bolts are rusted on either, some PB Blaster helps. If the tank is old it would not be a bad idea to drop the tank and clean it out………….. oh wait thats how that can of worms gets opened

So I assume the tank an skid are somewhat one item as far as bolts holding it all up? Thanks for the heads up on the wires and sock,my intention is to lower it just enough to get may hand in there to replace lines.

the skidplate has a strap over the top of it holding the tank in place as one unit like you mentioned
