Dropping /Replacing Fuel Tank

I just got my CJ actually to my house today (short tow) and I need to first replace the fuel tank. It leaks, PO told me it did and I've seen it.

If everything on this Jeep checks out reasonably well on the mechanical side, this will be a tub-swap restore.

So where can I find the best step-by-step info dropping and replacing the fuel tank on this Jeep?

pretty simple really, I did mine last year with no instructions. Tips would be to make sure the tank is drained. I used a floor jack under the skid plate with a piece of wood and jacked it up till it just touches. Disconnect the filler and vent hoses, and take the bolts out of the skid plate. Lower the jack and take pics of the hoses and wires for assembly. It is not difficult just a pain in the ..........

finding a tank for the 77 CJ5 was a bit of a challenge and the hoses are impossible. I don't know if the CJ7 is different but save your hoses if you can untill you find out if they can be found.

Good advice, my 76 was also a challenge, got mine thru Williyworks out of Tucson.

About 4 bolts on the front of the skidpan and 4 on back. Get a jack under and once you have the bolts out lower until you can easily unhook wires and hoses. I would, and did, replace with a composite tank as it is less likely to develop condensation, and will not rust. You will probably want to replace filler and vent hose as well. Think I got my tank from Morris 4x4.
