where is the bleeder valve on 9" drum brakes? Do I have to dissassemble brakes to get to it? sorry probably an ignorant question

I'm going to go out of the limb here and say, on the back of the wheel cly.
should be at 12 o'clock on the back side of the backing plate, by where the brake line goes in.

They MAY be broken off. It happens, really quite a lot.

If they ARE broken off, don't even think about it - just replace the cylinders. They're cheaper than the agony of trying to get broken bleeders out, and if the bleeders are broken off the cylinders will want a rebuild anyway.

That goes under the heading, What the PO left me.

yeah i started to remove the tires to investigate the drums and such but cant get the nuts off one. i think they are tack welded. this tire has a lot of play in it. dont know if i should continue or not. should i swap axles. is that something a novice can accomplish.

Get a bigger cheater bar for the lug wrench and get the nut off, a little WD40 wouldn’t hurt. The worst that can happen is you break the lug and that can be replaced. Sounds like a wheel bearing from where I am setting. You could do a wheel bearing, it isn’t too difficult and most of it is driving to the machine shop to have the new bearing and seal put on.

It's not rocket science.
If you know how to bleed the brakes, change U-joints, use a floor jack, jackstands and turn wrenches.;)

If you can't feel a definite weld, they're just stubborn. A long breaker bar, with a long pipe stuck over the handle, WILL GET THOSE NUTS OFF. You may possibly break a socket in the process - that's the price of life. If you break a socket, replace it and at the same time pick up an impact socket. YOU WILL GET THOSE NUTS OFF.

Time & again I've jumped up & down on a long breaker bar to get lug nuts off. HAD to, I only weigh about one-fifty. :)

It helps to roll the wheel so the lug nut is on the RIGHT of the hub. Put the socket on the nut and arrange the breaker bar so it CROSSES the centerline of the hub. You can get a lot better torque on it that way, with the least tendency to turn the wheel.

It's times like these I love my compressor & impact gun!;)
Yield work best for me, but Justice Bros.80 is good or Liquid wrench.

Is this the front or axle? On a 60 CJ5 you can have a few issues.
