So things are slowly starting to get where I can put parts back on. While reconnecting the e-brake cables, I looked at a picture before and it has them running between the springs and the frame, then it goes up and over the cross member just in front of the differential, makes a loop and then is fastened under that same cross member. I noticed that on both cables, the wire protective wrap has been worn away and there are spots worn into the frame where it looks like they have been rubbing.

I decided to re-route them under the cross member still looping around and back to the attachment point. Anyone see any issues with this? Anyone with a 74 that can look at how their cables are ran?

Seems to me with the original routing it would limit down travel not that it seems to have a lot, but could put a strain on the cables.

Here is an image with the new routing. The lower arrow shows where the cable had rubbed the frame. It has wore in about 3/8", not quite as much on the other side. The other arrow shows where it went up and over the cross member. The rest of the attachment is where it originally was. I do plan to attach a cable clamp under the cross member so that the cable can't hit the leaf spring. Don't think it will but feel better having it secured. And should still allow for what ever down travel the suspension will have without straining anything.

Thoughts???

Can't quite remember, but doesn't the cable attach to the bottom of the tub? I believe they do on my '75. I routed mine over the top. The new cables have a plastic covering over the cable and I believe the rubber covering on your cable is supposed to go against the frame where it rubs. If it were mine I'd get some heat shrink tubing to cover the cable, heat shrink it of course.

Thanks Hedge, i didn't have anything on the bottom of the tub where they would mount to it. Might go back and remount them and use the heat shrink or possible find some rubber hose that would slide over and protect where it would rub the frame. Lots of things give me that head scratching feeling while working on the old gal and I appreciate the comments from the folks here.

I went back and looked at the pictures I took of my 79 before disassembly. The passenger ebrake cable had a cable clamp securing it to the cross member bottom side (first on in front of rear axle), the driver's side went straight into the half moon bracket attached to the main cable coming from the pedal.
