I'm thinking about doing an EHPS (Electro-hydraulic power steering) conversion on my CJ2a . It currently has a belt driven pump, but things are a little too crowded on the front of the engine for my taste.

Anyone ever gone down this road that might have some advice? The 2000-05 Toyota MR2 seems a common donar for this type of thing, but anyone here with real world experience in a Jeep - I'd love to hear from you before I take the leap. It seems I can use the pump to power a hydroboost brake master cylinder at the same time - so that seems like another advantage.

Boy this site is always full of surprises, I didn’t know going electric power steering was a thing already I would like to see how this goes

I have no clue, but sounds like an interesting project. Are you talking about using an electric pump to power the hydraulic power steering box?

Is this 2A still 6volt?
Need 12volts and a bunch of AMPS for the Yota setup.

Naw..... it was converted to 12v (and Odd Fire V6) long before I got it. And given the amount of rust and corrosion on some of the engine bolts, it was done some time ago.

I am a bit concerned about the amperage needs. From what I can find the pump draws about 40A at full run. So my worst case scenario will be turning while winching... That being said I'm currently installing an aux battery that the winch will run off of. I'm thinking that if I do go for the electric pump I'll run that off the aux battery too.

Get an altenator with higher output.
That OEM one will never be able to keep up.
