just throwing this out there. the ground always seems to cause the most of the electrical problems in the cj. so i was thinking that if i got a strip of metal ran a wire to battery negative and then grounded all the circuits to that strip of metal and mounted say under the dash, it would solve alotta problems. or maybe not? any other ideas?

I have a fiberglass body and have thought about doing the same thing so I will be interested to see what others have done. Good question!

I just put in a bus bar for positive and negative wires under the hood to get wires off of the batteries. Really reasonable price and clean look. VTE Warehouse.com. They have different sizes and styles that might work for you.

Bus bars as purple77cj7 suggested are a great idea and really needed with a glass body.

Any photos of your handy work? I just installed a new Optima Blue Top and connected the new winch so now I am ready to tackle some of the other wiring issues.

Above the batteries is the bus bar. I was going to put two in, ran out of room. Had to double up wires.

Very clean install! I am just curious why you have a Red top and Yellow top batteries? Why the mix? Instead of 2 batteries I opted for 1 Blue Top so if I completely drain it running the winch there will be no damage (deep cycle).

I started out with the two different batteries running an isolator. I had my winch hooked to the yellow top and my electric fan, ran everything else off of the red top. Now I may have to get two of the same battery, my isolator quit so I put in a 12Volt Guy dual battery solenoid. Now everything is hooked to the red top and through the solenoid you can isolate or run the yellow top in parallel or isolate it for back up start when winching.

Hey Purple77cj7, is that the "4 post" or the "big 4 post" bus bar?

They call that a dual terminal bus. I would add the web sight but I don't know how to do it yet, still learning. Site is in an earlier post.

Looks great Purple77CJ7. Neater than the wires I've added to my CJ.

Make sure each accessory is securely attached to the metal grounding strip. Use dielectric grease. The problem is never that the dash, body or frame isn't a good ground. As a matter of fact they are always an excellent ground. The problem is the accessory itself isn't always connected securely to the ground.

wow, great source for electrical connections.
Thanks guys.
Purple77CJ7 is that where you got your Terminal Bus?
That would have made my wiring jobs look much more professional.
It's good to have good terminal connections for ground, 12 volts and switched 12 volts.

Yes I did get bus from that place. I was researching dual battery solenoids and ran across a post were some guy bought a 500 amp fuse for his winch. Checked it out and also bought fuse plus bus and battery terminal covers. I had wires to both batteries and thought that would clean it up some.

When I get really ambitious there is a nice terminal bus that I think would work to clean up under the dash. Some day!

Grounds were shot to Hades; so was the scissors jack on the PAX side fenderwell. I deep-six'ed the rusted jack and put this piece of copper tubing in its place, with copper bolts, nuts, and copper anti-seize. Shown is the first run of No.4 copper to the engine block. I'm running No.2 wire to the frame and body at the rear, and No.4 - No. 6 to headlight fenders, dashboard, and home-runs wherever I know a buncha current will flow.

I shouldn't post this....... all y'all know how bad copper theft is becoming..... but I'm a light sleeper and so is my .45 Long Colt Frontier revolver.

That's pretty good work, you will have to sleep with one eye and ear open!:D

this is what i used in my rear area on the DS... behind the wheelwell...

Stud Type Plastic Junction Box

i ran ONE 10ga wire to the battery neg post and everything aft of the seats will be hooked here for return to negative...

because its non-bussed, each terminal must be wired together... but thats easy enough...

plus, its sealed up and wont get wet/muddy

hope you find what youre looking for!
